Classy Grunge

29 Mar IMG_3552

Hello Seafashionistas!!

I’m sorry again about this delay in posts! I just started a full-time job in the city that has been taking up some extra time, but I promise I have not forgotten about Seafash, and Seafash is not going anywhere.
As for this post, I wanted to display one of my favorite looks to wear…the combining of grunge and feminine pieces. I love to wear a beanie and oversized scarf with a feminine, flowy dress, or motorcycle boots with tights and lace shorts…the options are endless! Cara Delevingne,  international supermodel and style icon, loves this look and is a perfect example to follow if you are as interested in this look as I am. (See a picture of her in this look herehere, here and here). Once the weather really starts to warm up this spring (us Pacific Northwesterners still have to wait a few months), this look will get easier and easier to accomplish. Think about wearing a pale-pink summer dress (similar to this), paired with a leather jacket (here) and a pair of booties (here) and you have covered the look!
At the bottom of the post I will put up a few links to looks you may be able to pair together to get this look.

Spring into Stripes

11 Mar IMG_3504

Hello Seafashionistas!

So as many of you may have noticed by now, stripes are going to be huge this spring. This doesn’t just mean stripe tops and bottoms, but stripe accessorizing. By stripe accessorizing, I mean bags, scarves and shoes (check out Marc Jacobs spring 2013 stripe bag here). Stripes are also have transitioned from the “one striped piece per outfit,” to mixing stripes. Recently, on the spring 2013 runway, mixing of all things stripes was seen everywhere. This can be anything from combining a vertically striped dress with a horizontally striped bag, to mixing black and white stripes with colored stripes… anything goes. To see some of the striped looks from the Spring 2013 runway, check out this Marc Jacobs photo (here) and Oscar de la Renta gown (here). Below I display a relatively reserved striped look, by simply accessorizing with stripes, but in the future keep your eyes open for blog posts where I will combine stripes, similar to what was seen on this season’s Spring 2013 runway. At the bottom of this post I will put up a few links to some reasonably priced striped pieces!

Print me up buttercup

28 Feb IMG_3427

Hello Seafashionistas!

So sorry about the recent break from posting to Seafash. My family and I went on our annual ski-trip last week, and a combination of the all-day skiing and all-evening napping led to a lack of time to post! Finally… I am back and ready to get back on into the Seafash swing. After the most recent fashion week, there are a lot of new trends that will be requiring some posts, so stay tuned!
I am starting to slowly transition my outfits out of full-blown winter wear, to winter with a spring flair. (I know that as I did just get back from a ski vacation, I DO understand that it is still winter time). As shown by many designers on the most recent fashion week (think Jason Wu, Derek Lam and Rodarte) for Spring 2013, leather will still be in.  I truly recommend trying to keep that look in your wardrobe for the upcoming season. (They make some really great vegan leather pieces too! Try Urbanoufitters.com). Another look that will continue to stay strong next season is fun prints. Prints can add life to any outfit, and the bolder, the better. Electric colors will be in for this upcoming season, so if you can find a fun, bright colored, printed or beaded piece to add to your wardrobe, you will be set for spring 2013! The dress that I am displaying below is modeled after Diane Von Furstenberg’s famous “wrap dress.” DVF wrap dresses are always a staple for a wardrobe, and stores like Zara and H&M have similar looks at a more reasonable price point. (DVF dress shown here).
At the bottom of the post, I will put up a few links to some reasonably priced printed pieces.

red is for Valentines Day

10 Feb

Hello Seafashionistas!!

It is almost that time of year again, Valentines Day. You either blissfully ignore the overwhelming flower and chocolate displays, or you embrace the “Hallmark Holiday” and dress to impress. I say… embrace the holiday! When is there a better day to wear that bright red blouse that has been hanging in your closet for the past few months but Valentines Day? Red is one of this season’s hottest colors that often goes unseen, and I think it needs to be shown some Valentine’s Day love. Check out some of these links to photos from this week’s New York Fashion Week, and the designers embracing red.

Colors Round Two

28 Jan

Hello Seafashionistas!!

As many of you know, in my previous post I talked about color blocking, and how to slowly introduce yourself to it. My last post was a quieter approach to it, and this post is a bit riskier! After talking about how to slowly amp up your “color-block confidence,” I wanted to show you all a louder color blocking outfit. Of course, I had to add leather into the mix as well, as it is another love of mine this season. At the bottom of the post, I will put up a few links to different “color-blockable” pieces that may go together.

Colorblocked

25 Jan

Hello Seafashionistas!!

I know that I have talked about color blocking in previous posts, but this is a trend that I just don’t want to move away from. Fortunately for myself, it is popular for upcoming spring 2013 trends, so we are in the clear! As mentioned in my “Black and White” post (here), Black and white blocked together is a hot trend this winter and spring and is especially popular in handbags this season, as shown with the handbag below. It can be nerve-racking to pair together multiple colors, so I always say to start small until you get comfortable with it and go from there. As shown below, I pair black and white with a single bright color. This combination can be very simple (as many of us already have so much black in our closets!), and you will still master the “color block.” If you are feeling adventurous, some of my favorite color combos are teal and dark blue, orange and and bright pink, teal and orange, and orange and purple. Long story short, when it comes to color blocking, let your imagination run wild! There probably will be the same crazy combination you come up with on the runway this spring, so put your brave face on and try it out! At the bottom of the post I will put up a few links to color-blocked shirts for reasonable prices!!

Let’s go back in time

16 Jan

Hello Seafashionistas!!

If you love structured dresses, the 1960′s and Mad Men, then you are going to love this look. I have always adored the classic look of a structured, business-styled dress that can be dressed up with a pair of pumps and a trench coat. One of my favorite shows, Mad Men has always been an inspiration for my personal style (who doesn’t admire every outfit that walks out on that show?). I am fascinated with fashion trends from the 1950′s and 60′s and style them into my wardrobe. Structured dresses have been found in women’s closets for over 50 years and designers continue to research the look to add personal elements to the common “structured dress.” These dresses can be worn casually to work and transformed into a night style with little-to-no effort. One of my most memorable styles of the structured dress I first saw on Lauren Conrad a few years ago when she wore a blue, “Red Valentino” dress (as seen here). The look I have shown below displays one of my favorite structured dresses that I can easily wear to work and off to cocktail hour with girlfriends. At the bottom of the post I will put up a few links to some reasonably priced structured dresses!

Cargo and Leather

10 Jan

Hello Seafashionistas!

One of my favorite day-to-day looks that I am constantly drawn to this season is military cargo pants and leather. Cargo pants are a simple transition from the casually worn jeans that can spice up any outfit. Traditionally, the forest green cargo material has only been seen on pants, but this season it is starting to be thrown into many different trends. One of my favorite ways I have seen the cargo displayed is when it is paired with leather sleeves on a jacket, as seen here. As many of you know from previous posts, I have a love of leather/leather looking pieces and love to mix them in whenever possible. For this post, I was inspired by the above jacket and paired a pair of my favorite cargos with a simple leather jacket. At the bottom of this post I will put up a few links to some reasonably priced military cargo pants/jackets!

Black and White

6 Jan

Hello Seafashionistas!!

Black and white; An age-old, stunning combination that never fails. There is also something to be said for wearing a simple button up and high-waisted pant. How can combining the two go wrong? I opted for a white button up, as “winter white” is such a hit this year on the runways, but this outfit can look just as sophisticated using a colored button up. That being said, black and white is a classy combination that Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Hepburn and many of this year’s runways have mastered. Luckily, many of us have about three times as many black pieces in our closets than we have of anything else. Pair those black tops with a pair of white cigarette jeans, or a white top with a black pair of trousers. Some of last year’s runway looks (I guess we are in 2013 now!) that have inspired me most are by Narcisco Rodriguez (here), Prabal Gurung (here), and Alice+Olivia (here).  At the bottom of this post I will put up a few links to some reasonably priced button up tops.

P.S. Happy 2013 everyone!

I will be the one in Red

25 Dec

Hello Seafashionistas!

Well the day has finally come… and gone just as quickly. All the weeks of preparation and planning has come down to one important Christmas day (yet every year it feels as if you are suddenly cramming everything into the two days before!). This winter has (and continues to have) beautiful styles and colors that I will continue to follow, even after the festivities have passed. One particular holiday color that will remain classy and timeless is red. The best part of wearing red holiday dresses? Not only will you match the poinsettias that can be found on every empty surface, but you can continue to wear the color long past the holidays. The dress that I show below I plan to wear to a wedding in a few months and then another event after that! Red is not only popular as a solid color this season, but it is also very popular as an accent on the runway (Check out DVF red dress Winter 2012 here). By accent I mean small pieces that give a pop of color to more intense neutral toned looks, like red gloves, hats, or handbags (EX: red Celine handbag here). I guess the point I am trying to make is…when in doubt this season, go red. It is timeless, beautiful and festive on all skin tones, hair colors, etc. At the bottom of the post I will put up a few links to some reasonably priced red dresses! I hope each of you have had the chance to spend this holiday season with your loved ones! Merry Christmas to all.
